This message means the disk on the school's SEQTA Server has reached the threshold set in the configuration settings.
Resolution
Option 1: Assign additional disk space to the SEQTA Server
- If the school manages it's own SEQTA Server this is done by the school's IT department or whomever hosts the servers. Once done the SEQTA Service desk will need to be notified to expand the drive to pickup the extra space
- EH Hosted servers: The schools STC or SEC will need to raise a ticket with the with the SEQTA Service desk for additional space to be added. A quote will be provided before space is assigned.
Option 2: Have staff delete User files to free up more space
Warning thresholds
The service reports OK, WARNING or CRITICAL, reaching these states if either a percent threshold or absolute threshold is surpassed.
Where school's have large drives the thresholds can be adjusted on request with email authorisation from the school's SEQTA Technical Contact.
Default thresholds for all volumes:
- WARNING: 80 % (no absolute threshold)
- CRITICAL: 90 % (no absolute threshold)
Current usage
A breakdown of disk usage can be provided on request. It's essential for the OS, database and backups to be allocated enough space as these are required to keep the server operational and allow rollbacks and data recovery if required.
Should user files run out of space SEQTA will continue to function however users will not be able to upload any files to SEQTA and reports run in the background may fail.
The following guidelines can be used to ascertain how must space is required for the SEQTA instance:
-
database: The database volume should have 60% free. This is to allow for side-by-side database recovery which requires %50 free. Then an extra ~10% additional space accounting for some growth.
-
database backups: The internal backup volume. Once a full rotation has been reached (~50 backup files) which takes one year, there should only be need an extra ~20% to allow for growth. See: About SEQTA backups and backup rotations
- user files: The user files volume. When users upload files into SEQTA this is where they are stored. Schools need to ensure sufficient space for their users requirements which will depend entirely on how much the school community uploads into SEQTA. Some factors that come into play when determinising how much users upload into SEQTA are the 'Max file size upload limit' the school has set in SEQTA Teach 'Application settings' page and set to and weather they use the GoogleDrive or OneDrive integrations.
Managing disk space requirements
If there is an concern over space requirements please refer to the article Saving disk space for preventative measures. To free up space refer to the articles Managing user files and Uploading, Managing and Removing Programme Resources
In most instances, the majority of disk space is used by teacher resources. These can add up quite quickly in where school's have increased the max file size upload limit from it's 32Mb default. Due to this, school's typically set the limit to no more then 100Mb for SEQTA Teach and 50Mb for SEQTA Engage and SEQTA Learn.
Visibility of disk space availability on the SEQTA Server
SNMP access will be made available on email authorisation from the School Education Contact or School Technical Contact. The school will need to provide which IP they want to use.
