Class-based Kiosk attendance

Class-based Kiosk mode is intended for use by students entering and leaving a class (even if that class is off-campus). This mode behaves much like a transport card (SmartRider, MYKI etc), in that the student MUST tag out at some point if they have tagged in.

When using class-based attendance, it is essential that students tag-out when they leave the class, in order to allow teachers to mark their roll for the remainder of the day.

Tagging in (Class-based mode)

Tagging in applies an attendance solution from the time the student tags in, till the end of the day. Examples of Attendance types that can be used to tag in are:

• In-class
• Late to Class: This indicates the student was 'tardy', not late (see below)
• Music lesson
• Tutor
• Sick Bay

Tagging out (Class-based mode)

Tagging out removes existing attendance from the time the student tags out, till the end of the day. Typically the following Attendance type is used to tag out:

• 'Tag Out of Class'.

Recording lates with class-based attendance

Class based attendance cannot be used to report on how late a student is for a class. Unlike campus based attendance, which can apply attendance retrospectively, class-based attendance only records attendance from the time the student tags in onward.

Students can tag in with 'Late to Class'. This is used only to indicate the student was a few minutes late. Some schools choose not to enable this Attendance type and is dependent on the school policy.

Unlike true 'late' attendance types, students marked 'Late to class' are not flagged 'absent' from the start of the class till the time they arrive. Rather, they are flagged as 'present' from the start of the class till the end of the day, or until they tag out.
